Charming Townhouse by the Sea

Estepona, Estepona East

THE LIFE YOU FIND HERE

They hadn't planned to stay long.

It was supposed to be a two-week holiday — a break from the grey skies and the relentless pace of life up north. But on the third morning, when she stepped out onto the south-facing terrace in her bare feet, coffee in hand, and watched the sun climb slowly above the Mediterranean, something shifted. She looked at him. He looked at her. Neither of them said anything. They didn't need to.

Every morning after that began the same way. Up with the light — and in a south-facing home, the light comes early and stays late — down the little whitewashed lane, and onto the boardwalk. Just twenty metres from their front door. They'd walk the length of the shore as the fishermen set up for the day and the sea turned from silver to gold. Sometimes they talked. Sometimes they just walked. Either way, they came home hungry, happy, and quietly grateful.

Weekends were for the terrace. Long lunches, cold wine, good company. She'd bring back fresh fish from the market in Estepona — ten minutes down the coast — and by early afternoon the sound of laughter would drift up through the bougainvillea. Friends came. Friends stayed. The ground-floor terrace had that effect on people — generous enough to gather, private enough to feel like yours alone.

As the evening cooled they'd move upstairs, out onto the upper terrace, and watch the lights of the Moroccan coastline appear on the horizon as the sky darkened. And from the master bedroom — the one with those massive, uninterrupted sea views — the Mediterranean was the last thing they saw before sleep and the first thing that greeted them each morning.

The house itself wrapped around them comfortably. Three spacious bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. A guest toilet for the friends who kept arriving and never quite wanting to leave. Two levels, each with its own relationship to the sea and the sky. Everything south-facing, everything bright, everything bathed in that particular quality of Andalusian light that photographers chase and painters dream about.

The community around them was small and unpretentious — the kind of place where neighbours greet each other by name, where children play in the square, where the pace of life feels borrowed from another era. Gated and peaceful, yet just a short walk from the vibrant pulse of Estepona and, beyond that, the glamour of Marbella. Not frozen in time, but wisely unhurried. A hidden corner of the Costa del Sol that somehow the crowds had never quite found.

They had come for two weeks.

They stayed for the rest of their lives.
